I found a blog, I don’t remember who’s it was, but it was about nukes. Now honestly, I find nuclear warfare intriguing beyond belief, even though it could potentially destroy the entire world. But that’s the mystery of it. The fact that we don’t know what would happen if one were to be fired is what makes it so interesting to me. That’s why I commented on that blog. I wish I had the time to read more of what they researched. It’s quite an interesting topic.

So, as part of this blog I’m required to comment on other people’s blog from other classes. I surfed around a little and it seems to be that a lot of the other students took this about as seriously as I did. Put just enough effort into it to get the grade. But there were some who really put their hearts and souls into their blogs, and I envy them. I wish I had had the time to delve deeper into this topic and really get into it. But it was difficult finding the information that I did.

The first comment I left was a compliment on someones layout. It was well done, and professional. It was easy to navigate and I wished mine were a little more crisp and easy to get around. I dont think mine is difficult parsay, but it could have been better.

Finishing Up

Over the past few weeks I’ve been looking around and learning a lot about this subject. I still think that Indians are a “threat” for lack of a better word to the job security of my generation. I still believe that because they have an advantage in the work force because of the amount of effort that they put into getting a job, learning, etc. Employers know that Indians will in general put in more of an effort and are more willing to work harder for less than Americans. But I don’t blame this on the Indians themselves. I see this more as a circumstantial outcome. Indians have not had the continual opportunity that we as Americans have had. They have had to work harder than we have to get the same things. They are willing to work harder for less because they don’t even have that opportunity elsewhere and are not willing to give it up. Americans are complacent and if we lose our jobs, that’s kind of our own fault. Maybe we should work a little harder.

Maybe not all it seems…

Hokay. So.

I’ve been reading around and looking at a few articles and I’ve noticed a trend. Education is a new thing in India. The majority of upperlevel education institutes are terrible and the ones that are good are virtually impossible to get into. So if you’re incredibly smart you get an education, instead of you get and education to become incredibly smart. I think that that’s the main difference between the US and Indian education systems. In India, you get into school if you’re smart. In the US you get into school if you show that you’re going to work hard to get smart. Maybe that has something to do with the difference. Indian culture appears to be that they have to prove themselves beforehand, so when applying for a job they are already adequate in doing the job. Whereas with Americans, they apply for a job with the will to learn how to do the job adequately.

Article talks about the efforts that are being taken to make the education system in India better. The United States is working to help other countries in bettering their elementary education systems so that the world literacy improves and that all children have some form of education.

This article shows that India is still progressing and that they have not fully developed their education system. It is a developing country, socially, economically, and politically. This might be why their youth are working so hard to get ahead, they’ve not had the chance to before. So, possibly this upswing in jobs going to Indians is only because there is a sudden uprising of educated Indians who are willing to go to much greater lengths than other educated people because they’ve not had the chance to. Since the US has gotten involved in helping India progress in their education, there has been a rise in literacy and the more educated people become the more they want to work.

Really as Big of a Deal?

Okay. Globalization. It’s obviously happening, and there is no denying that. People all over the world are becoming increasingly more connected via each other, the Internet, businesses, etc. So, is it not expected that we will swap jobs? I’ve noticed the more I read and research this topic that the US is sending just as many people to India to work at Indian companies as India is sending to work for US businesses. And outsourcing isn’t all that bad. It’s helping people out there that have fewer resources than we have here.

Education is different obviously between the two of us. Indians work harder it seems. They’re more focused on learninng. They concentrate on what they’re going to do with their lives. The learn the facts, the dates, the formulas. They spend countless hours memorizing and studying. Americans on the other hand spend much of their time equally learning and playing. We are expanding our horizons constantly. We learn a broad range of things and put them to practical everyday use. We are encouraged to think outside the box and to use our imaginations to create a new way of doing things if conventional ways don’t work. We are encouraged to form many relationships and to function socially in school. Neither of these forms are better overall than the other.

I believe that the education difference has less to do with outsourcing than what I innitially speculated. I’m beginning to believe that India’s economic rise has more to do with it. Indians are eager to exercise their new-found freedom and they’re willing to work harder for less because they want to. And it’s a standard of economics that business owners will take the cheapest most efficient rout. It only makes sense. Yes, education has a lot to do with it, but I’m beginning to think there is more to it.

So over the past few days I’ve been reading articles and doing a little more research for this blog project and I’ve noticed a trend. Alot of the articles were written two or three or even more years ago. This makes me wonder if American’s worries about Indian education threatening the jobs of their children was more of a well known and more thought about issue than it is today. I wonder if Americans in general have become complacient about their futures because complete loss of competition in the job market is not affecting them yet. They’ve put their fears in the back of their minds and have gone back to living their lives the way they always have. However, I dont know if this is entirely true. Education is always a big issue when elections come around. People always want their kids to go to the best schools. But is this really an attempt to make American students more adept to compete on a global scale. I think not. After reading some of these articles, and learning just how India’s (and other’s) education systems work, I wonder if even I will be able to compete for work on a global scale. What gets me the most is even though I know this, I dont necessarily want to put into my Education what Indian students put into theirs. They memorize. They dont go out. They constantly study. No free time. No fun. I would like to be social. School in my opion is not everything, but it is vital for survival. So where is the happy medium between fun and school that will prepare students for life in a globalized world? I guess that’s what we’ll need to figure out.
